An Afternoon at Mediterra Café

Updated: Jan 4, 2020

Mediterra Café is situated in the picturesque town of Sewickley, just outside of Pittsburgh. It fits in perfectly with all of the other darling storefronts that offer everything from beauty products to books. Mediterra Café is an outpost of the artisan bakery, Mediterra Bakehouse. I've been wanting to try this spot since I first saw them on Instagram. Every single thing they posted looked absolutely delectable. Let me tell you everything tasted as good as it looked.

Mediterra Café isn't just a cafe! They offer a large selection of desserts, breads, cheeses, jams, honeys, and other various products that you can buy to enjoy at home. I took one of these crispy baguettes home with me to pair with a cheeseboard for dinner.

I'm a connoisseur of delectable cheeseboards and Mediterra Café has perfected this art. When you order the cheeseboard, the staff at Mediterra Café will pick out the freshest and most seasonal cheeses for you to enjoy along with a selection of accompaniments. The day that I went they picked a fluffy boucheron, a nutty manchego, and a sharp cheddar cheese for me to enjoy. All of these cheeses complimented one another well as they had different flavors and textures that gave the board a good variety. They also added bacon fig marmalade, quince paste, Marcona almonds, and figs, which each added both sweet and savory flavors that complemented the cheeses.

Usually the only drink that you can get for free at restaurants is boring, plain water, but Mediterra Café also offered sparkling water, which I loved. Sparkling water always takes everything up a notch. The restaurant offered a wide array of beverages too, such as different coffee drinks, teas, and pops. I can't wait to pop in soon to grab my favorite, a chai latte.

Mediterra Café offers a soup of the day and the day that I was there it was a steaming cup of tomato-basil soup, which was perfect for the chilly day. The soup was comforting and full of flavor thanks to the aromatic basil. The soup paired well with the cheeseboard, because as we all know tomato soup, cheese, and bread are a winning combo. Mediterra Café also offers various salad bowls and sandwiches, like the chickpea salad or the turkey sandwich.

Mediterra Café is the perfect place to stop by if you need a filling and delicious meal, a quick cup of coffee, or to pick up some artisan food products. I definitely need to make a stop there soon for my next cheeseboard.
